Cost is the reason most people who need this care never start it. For veterans and first responders in Missouri there are funding paths that most people, including most clinicians, have never heard of. Here they are, plainly, including the ones that have nothing to do with us.
Missouri made post-traumatic stress disorder a compensable occupational disease for first responders, with no physical injury required, when it follows one of the qualifying events the statute lists. Firefighters, police, sheriffs and deputies, EMS, and 911 dispatchers are all named in the law.
Notice runs from the qualifying event or the diagnosis, whichever comes later, and the statute allows 52 weeks. That is far longer than the ordinary workers compensation deadline, and it is why a claim you assumed was too old may not be.
The same law expanded a Missouri benefits pool to cover PTSD, with up to $10,000 available toward treatment. Eligibility and process are set by the pool and your employer's participation, not by us. Your department or local is where to start.
